Vasart Paperweights PV001-0020

Vasart Glass 1956 to 1964

This was the second Vasart period. The paperweights are identified by matching to weights that can be proven to have been made in this period. Identifiers: Black and silver label “Vasart Glass” and “Pirelli Glass”. Canes used during the earlier Vasart and Monart periods were also used by Vasart Glass Ltd. Please refer to KevH's site on the links page for details of ongoing research.

Catherine Ysart, widow of Vincent Ysart, confirmed to me that the etched signatures were replaced by the black and silver label when Vasart Glass Limited was set up in 1956. It is likely that some weights made during the transition had both the signature and the new label, as production was not affected by the name change.

Please let us know if you come across plastic paperweights, containing Vasart canes. These were made by Vincent Ysart from 1965 to 1971. Although I saw some when visiting Catherine Ysart, widow of Vincent Ysart, I did not take any pictures.

Any Vasart weight that cannot be attributed to the Ysart Bros. period will be listed here — even though they may have been made in the 1946-56 period, or before 1946.

Contributions: If you have some weights that you would like to share with the collecting community through these pages, please provide at the minimum a JPG picture of high resolution and a picture of any marks or label, plus height and diameter. Ideally, we would like photos showing both the profile and base views, and indication of how they fluoresce under Long and Short Wave UV. This will improve everyones knowledge and possibly the methods of dating.
